This editorial has no specific topic, no intended direction and no offlimit topics. I'm not going to butter up Nintendo's image likewise I am not going to get out my verbal hammer and smash it to the ground. Like everyone everywhere there is a mistake to be found in something they do, may it be something they have been doing for 20 years or even 2 days nothing can be done perfectly. Yet, though the phrase "Nobody is Perfect" is a very well known, wide spread phrase, Nintendo still continues to pursue this perfection and god like status of gaming. I have to admit I can't argue with them, if it wasn't for this trait a plumber may have never become a superhero, a little pink ball may have never taken flight and something absurd like a little yellow mouse wouldn't be plastered on lunch boxes and t-shirts around the world. Nintendo puts soul into the games they produce, their games don't become a game you just toss aside after 2 months and look at every once and a while when you take out your old systems. You can feel this superiority while you play that makes you want more, the feeling is almost like a craving. Delays happen all of the time, they happen to even the best of developers, but for some reason players don't become so disappointed if say, Super ABC's becomes delayed. But when one of Nintendo's games become delayed we look for answers seraching tediously for the nook or cranny on the internet that may show the cause for delay. When the answer isn't found there we turn our heads to Nintendo and what do they do. They look at you and say, 'The game has been delayed to make improvments.' Now when I read that statement, and hopefully when you do to, you will read a completely innocent phrase. When that phrase is put after a game, for example Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time it isn't the same. Having played the game we know that Ocarina of Time is one of the best games to ever be made. It was declared the Game of the Century by quite a few magazines but all the same Nintendo let down it's fans by pushing back the game so much. Don't get me wrong though it is not the game the disappointment is towards, it is probably one of the greatest games of all time, the disappointment is towards Nintendo itself. I consider myself a Nintendo loyalist. What is that really? Well it isn't a fanboy, I don't drool over every game that Nintendo makes, I just prefer Nintendo systems over the competition and I have stayed with them no matter how big a mistake that they have made, which is what brought me to making a website like this. Just after at the beginning of this month, after the holidays, I began to question my own judgement in placing my bet in the next-gen console race. Do I think Nintendo will win? Before November, I would have told you hands down yes Nintendo has everything they need to win. They have the games, they have the easiest programing and the most best controler. It wasn't until just recently that I realized when I played my GameCube that Nintendo's biggest fault is that all of their major gaming victories come at the expense of their players. Their games are always visually stunning it is the content that is lacking. Conker's Bad Fur Day which is one of the shortest playing games to reach the N64 still has more than double the play time to beat Luigi's Mansion. Now as the players are starved of games until at earliest March 25th when Star Fox Adventures comes out or if we are lucky and Eternal Darkness makes a release before Star Fox what are we supposed to play until then? Solo and Multiplayer can only last so long until you are run dry from your games. That is ther perdicament that many players find themselves in now and Nintendo wonders why players leave to a system with a more stable list of great games with more reliable release dates. The only way Nintendo can reclaim its throne as the best video gaming company is to play their cards right. I mean the deck is stacked in their favor with 1st party games like Mario Sunshine and Legend of Zelda GAMECUBE, 2nd party games like Eternal Darkness, Star Fox Adventures and Metroid Prime and finally 3rd party exclusives like the Resident Evil series and some of Sega's most favored games. All of these games are going to be fantastic I assure you but lets hope Nintendo remembers who brought them to where they are today, the players. I hope that they can return the favor by keeping a deadline or two or at least show us why work is needed in the game. It is simple acts like these that would make them the undisputed number one.
