Delay, Delay, Delay

Many sites recently have been buzzing about Nintendo and their weak 1st quarter after the removal of Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requim. Here is my persective on it all.

Over the past few days I have heard many Nintendo fans say "I am Nintendo biggest fan I am done with Nintendo because they don't have any good games until March" To that statement I reply, Do you really believe that you are Nintendo's biggest fan after you give up on the GameCube after 2 months. I mean you already have at least 5 phenominal games to last you until April when it comes out. This is where I think Nintendo may have done made the delay strategic. Delay Star Fox and Eternal Darkness so that not only do the games get the time they need to improve but also give double the competition to X-Box and Playstation in the second quarters and beyond since both X-Box and Playstation have almost no eyegrabbing games in the first quarter either. Think about this which would be worse a slow Early 2002 or a slow Fall 2002 which is really what this comes down to. I believe that this delay will make it so that hit games will almost be one after another for quite sometime because the gap between Star Fox and Mario was shortened. Then to finish off the year we will see hopefully Zelda and Metroid Prime.

All in all assuming that both games will be coming out in April Star Fox is only going to be delayed 2-4 weeks tops since it already had a late March release anyways. Though the wait for Eternal Darkness is a lot more dramatic seeing as the game has been pushed back since way back to the N64 I feel that another 2 months for what could be one of the best games of this year is definately worth it. We will keep you up to date when we find out more about confirmed release dates.
