Mario is the Nintendo mascot but what makes him up? Since near the beginning of Nintendo's video gaming history Mario has been on the front line. The first game made by Miyamoto is the legendary Donkey Kong for the Arcade. You can debate that without this game Mario would have never become as big and that Nintendo would have never entered into home video games. Soon after the sucess of Donkey Kong the NES was in the works. You may have heard a lot of talk lately about Mario games always come out with the system and that this is breaking a long line of tradition. Which to Americans may be true but not to the Japanese. This is true because when the NES was released in Japan it wasn't released with Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. was finished in time for the US release. Every subsequent system was then released with a Mario game of sorts. Back before the Nintendo 64, Mario was a real big seller for Nintendo on all of their platforms but with the release of Mario 64 Nintendo decided to slow down production of new Mario games to give time for their other games to shine. Such as the Mario spinoffs like Mario Party or games like Super Smash Bros and Legend of Zelda. They decided that it wasn't worth rushing Mario games they wanted quality not quantity. This may have been the reason another true Mario game was never seen on the Nintendo 64. With the release of the GameCube, Nintendo held true with releasing another piece of the Mario series with the system. It wasn't the typical kind of Mario game though. This one features his younger brother Luigi and his quest to save Mario who has been kidnapped but Mario fans everywhere should be pleased to know that in 2002 we will see the next piece of the Mario series with the release of Mario Sunshine. Though much isn't known about the game it is sure to be unique to the series like all of the games are. The Life of Mario: Story wise the series is as such: Mario and Luigi are children that have been fortold as being able to stop the Koopa clan. Kamak tries to kidnap the children to stop this from happening but he only manages to get Luigi. Mario falls down to Yoshi's Island. There a bunch of yoshi's vow to unite the twins and get them to their parents. After much hassle Yoshi and Mario accomplish the deed and are given to his parents that live in the Mushroom Kingdom. What happens soon after this is unknown, presumably Mario and Luigi and taken to Brooklyn and grow up there unknowning of their destiny. Until one day they fall into the Mushroom Kingdom where they save it from the clutches of King Koopa. Most of Mario's adventures afterwords are him saving the Princess and the Mushroom Kingdom from King Koopa, while an occasional side story comes in here and there. Nintendo has given Mario many differant titles throughout his history but the most common one seems to be hero. As more develops about Mario Sunshine we will be sure to keep you informed. Nintendo's most likely next announcement about the game will be E3 2002. Until then stay tuned.
