Christmas 96: Nintendo 64 and Tickle-Me-Elmo were the toys of the year. Almost every store was sold out of these 2 little toys. December 26th all of your retail stores were stocked with these items and the rarely sold out after words. Is this going to happen to our next-gen systems? A poll being conducted by TV-Guide right now for which system do you want for christmas is very close between X-Box and GameCube. X-Box is in the lead with 50% of the votes while GameCube trails just behind with 45%. PS2 took the other 5% so as you can see what Sony says like a broken record, that they are going to be the best selling system this Christmas, is far from true. PS2 seems to be continuing down hill with its continuing trend of not-so-great games. Will this happen to X-Box and GameCube as well? If Playstation 2 continues to do poorly the developers are going to jump to other more stable platforms. As everyone is begining to see with the first generation of GameCube games, developers can already easily use what the system has to offer on their first try. Once they get to use the system more and more, better games will come. (Think of it as a comparison between Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time) X-Box technically should be able to out preform the GameCube but no one has seen that yet so only the future will see. What does X-Box need to survive: GameCube you are on the right path, keep it up!
