My Online Auction Experience

About five years ago getting your hands on a rare video game was almost impossible. Myself, wanting to get my hands on one of my favorite NES games stooped low enough to tell my local video game rental shop that we misplaced the game and couldnt find it. So we simply paid the low price to replace it and they put another back out on the shelf. But now with the online society the way it is it is simple enough to find any video game you want, for a price and a risk that is. . .

Since the internet auctions have started picking up I have only bought 4 video games online. The first went marvoulous, I sent out my money, he sent out my game. The game was in better condition than I expected and I even got the instruction manual and box. A mighty plus from "losing" the game from my rental shop. But you never know what a seller will do. I have won auctions on E-bay where the seller never sent my item. (If anyone knows the person who has the e-mail lndshark1@peoplepc.com I would really like to have a chat with him) When a seller doesnt sent it becomes giving someone money for nothing! There is also times where the item you receive is far from what you expect. This can go either way. One time I decided I wanted the Legend of Zelda and Link's Adventure. I paid 10 bucks for what I assumed was a run of the mill gray cartridge and I ended up getting 2 shiny gold ones. But on the other side I bought what I thought was Mario Bros. You know the arcade version, like in Super Mario Bros. 3? My Nintendo was in pieces for a while but when I finally got it all back last week and popped the cartridge in it ended up not being Mario Bros., but Castlevania even though the label said otherwise.

Do I think buying on E-bay or another auction place is bad? No, of course not. But you need to be aware of what you are getting yourself into. These are my steps for making sure you get what you bid on in the auction as cheap as possible. First, never bid on soemthing until you check the sellers feedback. Read the recent comments carefully. If he has a lot of negatives just pass that auction up and look for another. You may even get it cheaper when you look around. Look around, not only at other auctions on the website but at other auction sites as well. Items on Yahoo tend to go a little cheaper than the ones on E-Bay from what I have seen. But it all depends who bid on them. Remeber online is not the only place to buy your video games. Look at garage sales, video stores, department stores and etc. . . You may find what you are looking for closer to home than you thought.
