What is Wrong With the World Today?

Well, I dont know if this makes you happy or not, but I decided that I am going to write a weekly editorial. Hoo-ray! This week the topic is "What is Wrong With the World Today?" Which you most likely clicked on the link to read about so it is no real suprise. So who am I talking about in this editorial? I am talking about Sony and analysts.

We'll start with the analysts because they do not make as much a fool out of themselves as Sony. We will start off with this quote. ``You will absolutely have homes who will have more than one of these boxes, In those homes you are going to have either an Xbox or a PS2 in the living room, but in the kids room you are definitely going to see GameCube.'' Well this does have one true thing about the GameCube in it so I will give the speaker that but it is part of the statment that ruins whole truth of it. PS2 and X-Box have nothing that appeal to kids really, and on the GameCube you are going to find games like Mario and spinoffs from GBA games that kids will like and know. But the part that is really disturbing about that statement is the fact that it is being labled as a "Kiddie Machine" and that no one other than your kids will want to play it. Hmmm, I must be mistaken somewhere, I never knew that Perfect Dark, Eternal Darkness, Legend of Zelda and other such games were not for adults. Well I guess I will have to take most of my N64 games back to the store because I am too old for them. In reality this "kiddie system" has enough of a chance to get into anyone's living room as the PS2 and X-Box and the fact that it holds popular games such as Mario and Zelda that you can't find anywhere else (unless you want to buy an outdated Atari) improve that chance even more so.

Now we are onto Sony and what a laugh this gave me when I saw it. A spokeswomen for Sony made this comment in response to the phenominal sales of the GBA. ``We've sold 3 million units, and are looking to bring in 7 more million units by the end of the fiscal year in March -- that's a pretty big head start, In terms of the console wars, the battle this year is for number 2 or number 3.'' This quote is seriously wrong on so many levels. So I will take it piece by piece starting with the beginning. Seeing as the fact that Sony has sold 3 million units in more than 6 months is not too good, Nintendo plans to sell more than quadruple that in GBAs in that time period. And 7 million by March? Nuh-uh. She must not realize that Sony is also competeing with the soon releasing GameCube and X-Box during the holiday season and I highly doubt that they are going to get 4 million more consoles sold in the same amount of time they got 3 million forced into the homes of users. I will be nice enough to give her the fact that if you take total money for the time that Sony will be out when the GameCube and X-Box release, yeah money wise they have a great head start. But the 128-bit market is still growing and it would not take much for Sony to get ousted out of it's throne this coming holiday season. Nintendo especially, the E3 show stealer, with their much antipated waves of games should easily be able to steal Sony's coveted #1 spot this holiday season. Sony, as shown by the spokesperson above, like to point out that they are #1. I mean what can you say though, it is not hard to be #1 when you have no competition.
