If someone came up to you today and said, "You know the Nintendo and the N64 are a
lot a like," you probably would not believe a word that they said but it is 100% true.
The similarities between the systems in their time span is very uncanny. Here is
a breif overview of some of the reasons why:
A very obvious similarity between the Nintendo and the N64 is the fact that both use
cartridges. Though game makers were/are constrained to the cartridge limitations fantasic
games were released between the life spans of both systems. Sadly though, other than
the GameBoy, once the N64 dies that is the end of cartridge based consoles.
There is an obvious major step up in graphics over the NES that the N64 has. But each
has a differant system of graphics. While the NES revolutionized the home with 2-D
graphics the N64 revolutionized the home with 3-D graphics. As the NES had very
simplistic graphics in 2-D worlds so does the N64 in 3-D. Where as in each the console
following them makes the appropriate changes in this.
Both systems were replaced by a new console that built off of their revolutions in
gaming. The GameCube and Super Nintendo each add to the games what the NES and N64
could not a sense of realism to respective their worlds. The 2-D worlds on the SNES
and 3-D worlds on the GameCube compared to thier predecessors shows how the ability
to develop on what was reveloutionary before.
As well both systems during thier lifetimes saw advancements in the portable side of
gaming. NES saw the release of GameBoy and N64 saw the release of GameBoy Color.
Each was revolutionary in itself. |
