Earthbound
INTRODUCTION:
Before Super Smash Bros. was released on the Nintendo 64 many gamers, including myself, had no idea who Ness was or anything
about what game he was from at all. That has all changed with the success of both Smash Bros and in my opinion that is what
tempted me to play this game. Though it is colorful and wacky the true depth and meaning of Ness' quest shows how deep the
story line of this game is.
FEATURES:
Long lasting adventure with deep story line.
4 heros each with a ton of unique moves
Tons of differant items
Tons of unique enemies
3 save spots
OVERALL GAMEPLAY: Though RPG's gameplay tend to be very basic turn style gaming what makes this one differant is the story line that goes along
with the game play. The basic storyline after a meteorite hits near Ness' home, Ness finds out about that he is destined to
save the world and if he doesn't act soon the Gigyas will soon destory the world. Ness then procedes from Onett going round
the globe in search of the stop to the Gigyas. I won't talk much more about the story so I won't give anything away. But
the story is perfectly mixed with humor and realism to make this a great storyline to follow. Now to the actual gameplay.
When Ness and his friends encounter an enemy it goes into your basic choices: Attack, PSI (Psychic Attacks), Defence, Items
and some players have other unique abilities. One unique thing about this game is the ability to put on Auto Fight. So if
you get sick of playing the little annoying enemies over and over you just turn that on and it is over in an instant (usually).
A great addition into this story line is how everything isn't given to you at one time. It is not get from point A to point B
infact the game doesn't tell you anything usually you have to be a good explorer to find everything on your own your first time
without having
to pay for hints. Overall gameplay can't get any better it is basic and easy to understand. The only problem I had at all with the game was
when I had all four kids. Sometimes they got stuck inbetween two objects, but that is my only complaint.
GRAPHICS:
For the SNES the graphics aren't too terribly bad. The effects in the background when you are fighting enemies are real
neat and something good to look at when fighting. There is some parts where obviously not much time was put into the
graphics and it shows.
SOUND: The music in the game for the most part fits perfectly. There are certain songs that are very repetitive and become
annoying after having to listen to them a lot. But on the other hand there is music that fits the emotion the game is
trying to giver perfectly. As for sound effects they are great for the system but do not expect too much more.
REPLAY VALUE: Being a great RPG with a long play time you most likely won't replay this over and over but after just completing the game
today I am anxious for a sequel and am even thinking about possibly doing the adventure again in the near future. I have
heard the terrible story about what happened to the sequel for this game that was supposed to be for the N64 and hopefully
their ideas will be taken to GameCube because I have to admit this is one of the best games I have ever played and I now
realize why Nintendo placed Ness into Smash Bros over some other characters with high potential.

SOUND: Music fits desired emotions perfectly but some tracks are very annoying. | 9.0/10.0 | |
