Luigi's Mansion

INTRODUCTION:
"When there is somethin strange in your neighbor hood, who you gonna call?" LUIGI!

Luigi's Mansion debuted at the 2000 Space World in Japan. Though it was called a technical demo it was easily seen through because of its marvelous graphics and effects. The press started guessing that because of the time spent it was no mear demo but in reality a launch game for Nintendo's next gen console the GameCube. Not suprisingly at E3 in 2001 Nintendo revealed Luigi's Mansion to the public and it swept them away.

FEATURES:

  • 1 player
  • An enourmous mansion with over 90 rooms
  • Real-Time Lighting and Particle Effects (very neat)
  • Save Mario

    CHARACTERS:

  • Luigi
  • Ghosts and lots of them
  • Professor E. Gadd
  • Mario

    STORY SO FAR:
Luigi wins a mansion out of no where. He and Mario decide to go and meet each other in the mansion. On his way Luigi gets lost and gets to the mansion a little late. Once he gets inside he sees Mario is no where to be found and the mansion is filled with ghosts!

    OVERALL GAMEPLAY:
Luigi's Mansion is a fantastic game. It has fantastic gameplay using the unique features of the GameCube controller to make playing this game differant than anyother game before it. The C stick, Joystick combo is really a differant feeling but is well done. It gives you the best controll of Luigi as possible. The game becomes addicting after the first five minutes making you want to search room after room for treasure and ghosts. While certain ghosts and bosses can become annoying quickly (such as the final boss) the overall game is a lot of fun. It will not be a long game for experienced gamers (it took me close to 6 hours to beat it my first time) but every minute within those 6 hours is worth it. Nintendo also impliments a good story line for the new game which shows more of what Nintendo wants to show to everyone they are trying to "grow up". Luigi's Mansion is a perfect step up for them. It contains a lot of darkness and scary images. There was a couple points playing this where I was like "This is E for Everyone?" I could not see a smaller child (Pokemon ages) playing this without getting scared. But for older gamers the images are nothing to be fearful of.

    GRAPHICS:
Magnificent. If anyone says X-Box or Playstation can top this with first generation software I would not believe them. The dust kicked up is amazing. Everything moves with realistic physics and the lighting is great. It looks like you are playing one of those computer graphic TV shows all of the time, except better!

    SOUND:
The sound in this game is great. Sound effects are realistic and as for music I want a Luigi's Mansion soundtrack. The music the game uses is highly addictive and it makes you want to whistle it. The remixes of the Mario themes are real nice as well.

    REPLAY VALUE:
The replay value of the game is farely low. The game is addictive but I couldn't see playing it over and over and over. It would be much to repetitive. On the other hand there is a hidden mansion mode that you get after you beat the original. I have not seen any difference between the two but maybe it unlocks something? Other than that it is down to the addictive puzzles and ghost sucking of Luigi's Mansion that would draw you back in.

Note from PCM: As to Miyamoto's comment about the Mario growing up. This game shows a perfect start to them growing up. There is no more Super Mario always saves the day. This time it is up to his younger, and often overlooked brother, Luigi to save the day. Though cartoony at times Luigi shows very appropriate emotions at times. From being scared to overcome with joy. I am very excited to see how "growing up" further develops with Mario Sunshine!
