Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II

INTRODUCTION:
Star Wars games have not been very rare on the consoles of today. The N64 had a Star Wars game at launch and thankfully the GameCube got one as well. Even more impressive is the fact that the visuals in this game are stunning (they are like watching the movie!) , most of the voice acting is done by actors in the original movies and to top it all off this entire movie like game only took 8 months to create.

FEATURES:

  • 15 unique levels and one training level
  • Some voice from original actors in the movies
  • Tons of differant ships to choose from and tons to unlock
  • Tons of DVD like bonuses to unlock
  • Medals to collect - Bronze, Silver, Gold

    CHARACTERS (Playable):

  • Luke Skywalker
  • Wedge Antillies
  • Lando Calrissian
  • and others. .

    OVERALL GAMEPLAY:
During a week off of school I decided to rent this game on a hunch, since Melee, Blue Storm and Luigi's Mansion just wouldn't cut it for me anymore. After completeing the Death Star Attack for the first time I have to admit I was engulfed. Gameplay is simple. Each level consists of certain missions you have to complete, from taking out the TIES to the At-Ats to bomb this or that. Each level is full of action and excitement. Factor 5 really used the controller well making sure it was very intuitive which it is. My only complaint is that occasionally when you use the D-Pad to give orders you slip up and give the wrong one. Which is all fixed in another second or two anyways.

    GRAPHICS:
The graphics are, for a lack of a better word, the best imaginable. Imagine watching the movie now think that caliber in a game. Every area you are in is like a portion of the movie from Cloud City to flying through the Death Star trench and don't forget the real time lighting it makes it almost confusable between the two. The only flaw in graphics I have seen is a framerate glich that I have only had occur once on Tatooine at sunset.

    SOUND:
Great sound. Not only do you get to hear very Star Wars music you also get to listen to talking between characters. The voice of Wedge in this game was the original actor and many clips of voices in the game were taken straight out of the movie. Other than one scene where the talking always gets cut out you cannot not like the sound.

    REPLAY VALUE:
There is a ton of replay value in this game. 15 levels each with medals that are awarded, the points you get from the medals are used to unlock bonuses and other levels. Getting golds to unlock all of the levels is quite a feat in itself but a challenge that is well worth it. There are also many upgrades found in each mission that help you out a lot in the long run.
