GameBoy (GB, GBC, GBA)

In 1990 Nintendo released the GameBoy first in Japan with the titles Super Mario Land, Alleyway and Baseball. Tetris followed soon and Nintendo decided it was ideal to launch it with the GB in the US as a pack-in title. Though the GameBoy could only do 4 shades of grey and had a 8-bit CPU it appealed to gamers all around.

In 1998 the GameBoy started to make a comeback. First there was the release of the GameBoy camera and a printer that could be used with the camera or on other games to print out stickers. And after years of waiting a Game Boy Color was released it contains a more powerful processor and the ability to play all previous GameBoy games made it attractive to many GameBoy owners. Colorized verions of classic games such as Link's Awakening and Tetris were released alongside the system.

The biggest phenomenon for the GameBoy was not the GameBoy Color or even the printer it was Pokemon. As soon as it was released it has been flying off of the shelves. The new Nintendo franchise spawned cards, toys and TV shows giving Nintendo their biggest marketing opportunity since Mario. Games were spawned on all systems for this kid attracting franchise.

Just after the preview of Sega's and Sony's new systems Nintendo unveiled some facts about their GameCube and GameBoy Advance. Though both were slated for a 2000 release niether released until 2001. GameBoy Advace released in June 2001. It is 32-bit and can play all previous GameBoy and GameBoy Color games.
